SMP Treatment

What Is Scalp Micropigmentation?

Scalp micropigmentation, or SMP treatment, is a cosmetic procedure that is completely non-invasive that offers hair simulation to give the impression of a full head of shaven hair, or densification to create an illusion of a fuller head of hair.

Qualified and experienced technicians carry out this procedure by depositing natural pigments into the epidermal layer of the scalp through the use of sterile precision needles with incredibly fine points. At Velvet Pigmentation Clinic, we provide the best quality service to make sure you don’t face any irritation and we can aim for the best possible results.

You can customise your shade to best match your skin tone and natural hair colour. The treatment itself will be split into three sessions, with a duration of 2-4 hours each time. We try to make it as painless as possible, with the tattooist working to deliver tiny superficial penetration wounds that will scab and heal almost immediately.

Suitability

Healthy hair makes use of around 2000 active follicles per spare inch. You may be suffering from genetic hair loss, known medically as androgenetic alopecia, facing a lack of confidence related to this issue. If you can relate to this, you may be suitable for SMP treatment if you are looking for a solution to male pattern baldness. The treatment can be used to cover the symptoms of alopecia areata, genetic hair loss, erratic hair thinning and hair transplant scars.

The treatment is suitable for both men and women who are suffering from mild to significant hair loss. Men will usually keep their head shaved to maximize the results, depending on the level of hair loss. Women will usually aim to camouflage hair loss in isolated patches or diffuse thinning hair.

The Benefits of SMP

SMP treatment offers a shallower needle penetrator than normal tattooing, and is completely safe, with any adverse reactions being almost non-existent. The visual effect means that it is often almost indistinguishable from real hair, mimicking the density and pattern of normal hair follicles. The client is able to select a flattering hairline to accentuate your facial structure.

Scalp micropigmentation can be an affordable solution as it doesn’t require continual expenses (although the costs and requirements differ to scalp tricopigmentation). The discomfort experienced during the treatment is mild, though topical anaesthetics may be applied, and mild anti-inflammatory tablet like ibuprofen can offer some relief during or after the treatment.
